Filling the Void
Another bright sunny day from Nebraska. Yesterday I had a slight adventure. My friend Andrew calls me at 4:30 PM and informs me his wife Mindy had a flat on the way to work. I was terribly happy to help- I picked him up and we changed the blown tire (it only had a little bit of rubber left on the rim) with the donut.
My only complaint is about my neighbors. No one pulled over to the left lane. In fact, I saw one car pulled into the closest lane to us. That's dangerous and stupid. Here's a stranded motorist- good form dictates that people should make room. People have died because of that.
Still, I got a free dinner at Perkins (where Mindy works) and got to talk with Andrew. I was amazed at the ratio of beautiful people to normal people at that Perkins restuarant (it was 4:1- I counted). The amazing thing is, most of the servers had two jobs.
That's scary- the American economy really is nothing but two jobs per person because one job isn't enough. That reminds me of stock splitting... what a horrible thing to go for! Corporate profits always rise and the worker's wages always drop. Yet no one bats an eye anymore. Don't people realize that corporations don't exist except on paper? A building is a building. A person is a person. A corporation is a parasite on society.
How many corporations are subsidized by the government (ie, taxpayers like you and me)? Yet single mothers are given the boot from Uncle Sam. I'm disgusted by politics yet, like a train wreck, inexorably drawn to it. Maybe it allows me to complain about something since I don't go hungry, I'm not shot at and I have a life expectancy of 80 years.
Still, I was very happy to be of assistance to my friends. When you help someone else, the terrible injustices in the world fade into the background.
