So... we have the GOP cleaning house in Virginia, a Democratic retention in California and an upset in NY-23.

It is NY-23 that interests me.

In case you were not checking it out, this race until a few days ago was a 3 way matchup between Owens (D), Scozzafava (R) and Hoffman (C). C? Why that's the Conservative Party.

This is a district that has not put a Democrat into office since the Civil War. The short of it is, that Scozzafava was not conservative enough, so the Teabagger crowd got behind Hoffman, a self avowed acolyte of Glenn Beck. Anyway, this was going to be an easy Scozzafava win against Owens.... until Hoffman entered the picture. This fellow is extremely rude. Extremely. He puts Dick Cheney to shame. Anyway, Hoffman took most of Scozzafava's support... and Hoffman doesn't even live in the district! How did Hoffman take her support? Why, because the floundering GOP leadership decided to make this a dick wagging contest.... so Gingrich puts his support behind the Republican, while Palin and others (like Limbaugh) put theirs behind Hoffman.

Scozzafava drops out of the race because she is polling as a distant third.

Owens, when hearing about the Republican dropping out, puts out a gracious press release and congratulates her for running a good and decent race. Hoffman? This fucker has the chutzpah to say "I told you so" about Scozzafava being a RINO and is essentially belligerent.

What does Scozzafava do then? Something unprecedented- she tells her remaining supporters to vote for.... Owens, the Democratic nominee!

And what happens? Why, this district is now being represented by a Democrat.

Because the Conservative Hoffman and the Teabaggers were douches.
